Customer Success Story
Famous for its Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathons, the San Diego-based corporation is a major player in running, cycling and triathlons, presenting events all over the world. Its stable of national US magazines Competitor, Triathlete, Velo and Women’s Running are top consumer print titles, backed up by a digital and social media network, and VeloPress, its book imprint.
Ad sales campaigns are complex, spanning print media, digital, and out-of-home at their sports events, which include marathons, fast 5K runs – which it popularised – as well as cycling and triathlons, which have massive participation. Thousands of competitors push themselves to the limit at these events. They are also now engaging with children with their KiDS ROCK campaign of road races and training programmes for young people under the umbrella of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. The company aims to be at the forefront of active lifestyles, empowering people to lead healthier lives.
Competitor Group has an enormous reach: their publications have over 19 million annual print impressions. Digital reaches more than 2.5 million unique website visitors per month. Social media engages 2.9 million plus followers. They stage over 70 events per year, which have 550,000 participants, not to mention millions of friends, family and spectators.
Competitor Group puts ADvendio through its paces
The company has been using ADvendio for over a year. It was installed in November 2015, and it took a little time to implement the application, train the staff and get it customized to their requirements.
Aaron Hersh, Director of Digital Media and Strategy at Competitor Group, Inc. says, “It took about three months to spin it up. We run complex campaigns spanning many types of media, and ADvendio is excellent for that.” They have 25 people using it regularly with another five utilising it occasionally. Advendio’s role is order management, magazine and digital production, inventory administration. Hersh says, “It’s great for that purpose.”
They like the automatic interlinking with the adserver, which is DFP. On the digital side salespeople can quickly check inventory and deliver complex campaigns in multiple media without a hitch.
The ADvendio staff in Germany are very friendly and put in the hours to ensure that any issue or upgrading is dealt with quickly and appropriately.
Competitor group are very pleased with the efficiency of the application, in a complex ad sales business where there are multiple interlocking media formats for each delivery method: print, digital, and out-of-home at their major events.
I think very highly of the ADvendio solution as it can manage all of the inventory to run an entire complex campaign ad sales business without any issues. The software is flexible enough to upgrade when we need some new custom features.
