Matthew Rohrs has joined the ADvendio team as a Sales Director, focused on the media industry and New York City. Matthew’s extensive experience in both sales and the ad tech industry make us delighted to welcome him to our team and utilize his expertise to further ADvendio’s expansion.
We caught up with Matthew to learn more about his background, experience, and what he is looking forward to in his new role.
1. Tell us about your background
I went to college at Union College, in Schenectady, New York. Schenectady was originally the headquarters of General Electric and has the distinction of being home to the first television station in the world. I double majored in History and French. I started my media career on the agency side of the business as a media buyer. I was first introduced to ad tech a few years into my career, and I realized there was a much brighter future if I pivoted from “traditional media” into something tech-related. I jumped from media buying to a role at VisibleWorld, which focused on linear addressable technology. VisibleWorld was acquired by Comcast and eventually rolled into FreeWheel, which focused on digital video ad-serving (and much more). I came to ADvendio by way of Operative, and firmly believe that the Order Management System (OMS) here is one of the most important products our clients can consider when building out their tech stack.
2. Do you speak any additional languages?
I am able to speak French, but it’s been a while since I’ve been able to use it with regularity.
3. What’s your job title and the regions you’re focused on?
I’m a sales director reporting to the head of sales Samantha Giaver. I’m focused on the media industry and New York City.
4. What led you to a career in sales?
I always knew I wanted to be in sales. I come from a long line of salespeople in my family, so it somewhat feels like it’s in my blood. My father and grandfather both sold syndicated television shows their entire careers.
5. What do you enjoy most about working in sales?
I love meeting new people, solving problems, and building strong relationships. You can do that in other roles, but being in sales makes it the forefront of your day, every day.
6. How do you think your previous experience has prepared you for your role with ADvendio?
Over the years, I’ve worked in a number of different roles. At each one, I’ve been able to learn something new that I’m able to use to grow my skill set and better prepare me for my next role. When I was on the agency side of the business, I learned about how the advertising ecosystem worked. When I moved to ad tech, I learned about new ways of thinking and addressing the age-old problems of advertising. When I finally landed at FreeWheel, I started learning what I needed to know about selling and relationship building. Operative taught me about the Order Management Business.
7. What expectations do you have for this new role in ADvendio?
I am looking forward to going out into the market and showing everyone why ADvendio is the best solution for their businesses. Not a lot of folks know about ADvendio here, but I think once we share what we’re able to offer, we will be very well received!
8. Is there anything else you would like to add?
I live in Brooklyn and have called NYC home for the past 12 years. I love biking, rock climbing, camping, photography, and skiing (and much more, but we’ll start with those!). Against the wishes of my wife, I bought a motorcycle and got my license. On nice weekends in the summer, I love to go out and explore the countryside.
The addition of Matthew to the ADvendio sales team will help the company expand its presence in the media industry, particularly in the US territory. Matthew’s experience in media buying and ad tech, combined with his passion for sales and relationship building, makes him an ideal fit for his role as Sales Director. His understanding of the advertising ecosystem will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and success of ADvendio. Matthew’s enthusiasm to introduce ADvendio’s industry-leading solution to businesses is a positive indication of his future at ADvendio, and we are looking forward to seeing Matthew grow into his role with ADvendio in the coming months.
